I've lived around the corner from Saigon Flower for years and only recently ventured in. I think my husband and I found it's existence too perfect to risk going and not loving it. Last night, on the eve of his 37th birthday (big important number, I know...) we decided to give it a go.

Is it the fanciest restaurant? Hell no. But we loved it! The owner was the only woman in there, and she did everything. Bartended, took our orders and cooked and cleaned. She nailed it. I loved my dinner-for-one combo (very reasonably priced three dish meals, with many to choose from) and my husband and kiddo loved their Shirley Temples (one with gin) and noodles.

The Saigon Flower Restaurant lived up to the hype in our hearts, and all of these haters should return and enjoy this place for what it is... a cheap and cheerful Chinese joint keeping it real while the rest of Queen W is too cool for school. Cliché out.

I gave this place a shot based on the mixed reviews and okay rating. I also LOVE Vietnamese food and was willing to give it a try.

The verdict: save your money and do NOT go here. It was unsanitary and the food was questionable to say the least. I didn't eat most of my food because I was actually afraid I would get sick if I kept eating. The service was dreadful as well but it didn't concern me as much as how unclean this place is. It should seriously be closed down for its unsanitary conditions alone. Think of those restaurants that Gordon Ramsay tries to save - it's like that. I'm too polite so I didn't just walk up and leave without paying, but I think there are people who would and I don't blame them. I'm frustrated that I wasted my hard earned money on this place and wish I had just gone anywhere else.

This is an OK Chinese food restaurant.  Nothing special.  Ignore the Vietnamese name, it is an actual Chinese place.  The food is actually not bad at all, maybe 3 1/2 stars, however the service is abysmal.  This is one of those places that are leftover (very few left) from the times when Queen West was a ghetto hood, like Queen and Lansdowne is today.  Queens West has gentrified in recent years, and higher quality establishments have become the norm as far west as one block east from Lansdowne, but few holdouts from 'ye olde times' still remain.

The old lady that is the hostess and waitress, is also 1/2 of the cooking crew, so expect long delays, both for ordering and getting the food.  Inside the ambiance is the typical 'bad neighborhood Chinese joint' vibe.  Not unsafe, of course, but definitely bring your date somewhere else if you want a second one.

Since there are very few Chinese places in this neighborhood, Saigon Flower is still good for that occasional Sino-craving (General Tzo!), but there is much higher quality food at similar prices around.

Unsure what the bad reviews were talking about. I ordered General Tso chicken and steamed rice. The food was delicious and came out fresh and steaming hot. There was only one woman server but she was very attentive and we shared great conversation. Would definitely return!
